The parish of Saints Adalbert and Catherine of Alexandria in Jaworzno is over 700 years old. The first wooden church was erected in this place in the first half of the fourteenth century. In sixteenth century, a stone church of Saint Catherine was built. It was later expanded and survived until the second half of the twentieth century giving way to the present shrine. The lower church was consecrated by Cardinal Karol Wojtyła in 1978. In 1997 the church was raised to the status of the collegiate church.
